Lavallette, New Jersey
Lavallette was first incorporated in 1887 and named for Elie A. G. La Valette, one of the first rear admirals in the US Navy and the father of Albert T. Lavallette, a co-founder of the borough. It spans a long, narrow section of the Barnegat Peninsula, giving it waterfronts on both the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay.
It’s a great family destination, with beaches for sunning, swimming, surfing and fishing. There are playgrounds for the kids, as well as public facilities for tennis, bocce and shuffleboard. If you like boating, sailing and windsurfing, Lavallette has got you covered there too. During the summer, there are outdoor concerts and movies, and there are year-round options for fine and casual dining, as well as department stores, specialty stores and gift shops. In fact, New Jersey Magazine rated Lavallette as the 8th best place to live in New Jersey in 2008.
